Winter Camping
“A character reacts to something in their environment” was the prompt that inspired Winter Camping. I had been playing both Alto’s Adventure and Firewatch at the time and was looking for a project to incorporate their minimal, geometric, and atmospheric aesthetics into.
The full body side character rig is nothing fancy, just parented layers with carefully placed anchor points. For the close-up face rig in shot 2, I used Joysticks 'n Sliders.
To get the campfire glow effect on the scene elements, I duplicated the comp and used masks, mattes, and the Stencil Alpha blend mode to isolate only the areas that should be highlighted. In the master comp, the highlights could then be layered on top of the original scene and tweaked to taste.
